Here is a recent concern that one of our service managers would like to point out to unknowing customers regarding GM oil filters:
“Take a look at the above photo. We had an SRX towed in for a knocking noise. Upon diagnosis, we found a 6″ hole in the engine block. Upon further inspection, we found that the oil filter had collapsed, and the paper from the inside of the filter had stopped up the oil pump inlet. Since the filter was stamped “made in China” we assumed it wasn’t GM. It turns out that the customer had the oil changed at an independent lube joint about 300 miles before the breakdown. The GM filter has a metal “wall” on the inside of the filter, and the “made in China” filter is plastic. Proof that you actually do get what you pay for! “

In mid-2006, General Motors released their first mainstream hybrid vehicle with first Saturn Vue Green Line. Prior to that the company had offered a mild hybrid system in the Silverado pickup but since that was really only offered in limited volumes to fleet and commercial buyers, we’ll skip that one. Since the first Vue, the BAS system has been added to the Saturn Aura and Chevy Malibu as well as the redesigned 2008 Vue. Read the rest of this entry »

A Malibu is faster than a Lamborghini. Bet the house. Or in today’s environment, bet your house from 2006. The Lamborghini Gallardo goes from 0-60 in 3.95 seconds. The Chevrolet Malibu does it in 6.5 seconds. Still, the Malibu is faster. But I am not talking about mph. I am talking about shopping activity and Chevrolet has seen the Malibu go from 67,921 new vehicle prospects in October to 236,011 in December. That is an increase of 247%, becoming the number 1 shopped mid-size car three months in a row, including January. This is the first time a domestic mid-size has held the number 1 spot for three consecutive months – ever. Read the rest of this entry »

Dramatic change is happening in Canada and around the world. For more than a century, the world economy has depended on oil as the sole energy source for transportation to fuel new growth and sustain our way of life. We can no longer afford that luxury.
Very real concerns with supply and harm to the environment are driving the search for viable new alternatives to oil. As the price of oil hovers around $100 (U.S.) a barrel, the necessity for alternatives has never hit closer to home.
At the same time, the bio-economy and rapid biotechnology advances are taking root. So far, one of the areas of great impact has been biofuels.
Biofuels, such as ethonal and biodiesel, have emerged as the only economically feasible and environmentally friendly alternative to oil. Biofuels are not only better for our environment, they are revitalizing farming communities, increasing our fuel supply, and moderating ever increasing prices at the pump.
