General Motors has been trying to unload its Hummer division for nearly a year now. Despite assertions late last year indicating that it hoped to have the troubled brand off its books for good before 2009 rolled around, we are now nearing the end of the first quarter of ‘09 and Hummer is still wholly owned by GM.
According to a new report by the Associated Press, tomorrow is the day that we’ll finally find out what the future holds for Hummer and its 160 or so dealers across the United States. We’ve heard all along that there are multiple parties interested in the brand, and that’s apparently still the case.
A GM spokesperson has said that companies from “all different parts of the world” are in the mix to purchase Hummer and the automaker is “cautiously optimistic” that a sale will be made. If a decision to sell Hummer isn’t made by tomorrow, it sounds like the brand will likely be abandoned to die a quiet death. Thanks for the tip, Avinash!
UPDATE: Automotive News is reporting that the decision has been postponed “a few weeks” to assess bidders for the brand and possibly complete a sale.

We’ve been through a lot of great car collections and museums over the years, but even we have to admit that we’ve never seen a private collection like this. Assembled by a shadowy figure known only as “The Sultan of Michigan,” this cache has something for car enthusiasts of most every stripe, although the focus is clearly on vintage and present-day muscle and Eighties-and-up supercars. Truck enthusiasts, vintage foreign guys and brass car enthusiasts will largely have to look elsewhere, but it’s a magnificent collection, with the most flabbergasting thing being that it appears to be up-to-the-minute current.
The whereabouts and ownership of the collection are two things that the owner prefers to keep private - we actually have confirmation on both, but prefer to respect privacies. What we can confirm is that this treasure trove is, in fact, located in Michigan, which is both heartening (to know that such wealth and mechanical beauty still exists in the state) and somewhat confounding (as the area lacks truly great winding roads on which to exploit much of the machinery). In either case, the collection is generally kept under wraps, although periodically we understand that the owner invites in selected parties to share in the gorgeousness. Some of the folks at MidwestSSC.com are obviously part of the ‘inner circle’ judging by the video and this photo gallery. Follow the jump to take the tour for yourself. Thanks to Andrew Weber for use of his video, and we appreciate the tips, Justin and Evan!

It’s going to be hard for Cadillac to live up to its longtime billing as “The Standard of the World” if the brand isn’t available in much of it. Despite this, General Motors has decided to pull Cadillac from nearly half of the 25 European markets (not including the U.K. or Russia) in which it currently sells. Along with Cadillac, the HUMMER and Corvette brands will also be affected.
The problem isn’t directly GM’s fault, as the automaker relies on a Dutch-based third-party company called Kroymans Import Europe to distribute these brands across the Atlantic. Due to slow sales caused by the global economic downturn, Kroymans has found itself with an “acute liquidity shortage.” In other words, it’s out of money.
GM and Kroymans are currently working on a new distribution deal, but in the meantime, a court has appointed an independent administrator to take possession of the 3,500 unsold vehicles currently sitting on Kroyman’s 165 European dealerships.

The coming Cadillac CTS Coupe has been photographed almost naked, and as with the new Camaro, it is remarkably true to the concept. While this version in white is said to be a vanilla V6 sample, the CTS Coupe should be hot enough to effectively replace the outgoing XLR as the Caddy with the mostest when it’s given some wheels large enough to match the body’s presence. As for the timeline, the Coupe remains on schedule to arrive next year, preceded by the CTS Sportwagon, which will arrive this June. Hat tip to Matthew!

GMC Terrain spy shots - Click above for high-res image gallery
In this day and age of information overload, there are hundreds of opportunities to break an embargo or accidentally publish information that was supposed to remain confidential for a wee bit longer. Such is the case today as General Motors itself has Tweeted a few salient details about the upcoming GMC Terrain, the embargo of which won’t be up until April 5, 2009.
According to a PR person from GM, the 2010 GMC Terrain will seat five adults, which isn’t all that surprising in and of itself, but it’s also expected to deliver 30 miles per gallon on the highway, and that’s pretty good for a midsize crossover that can seat your entire brood. In fact, the only other five-seat ‘utes that can beat that figure are its cousin, the new 2010 Chevy Equinox, the Ford Escape Hybrid, and Saturn Vue Hybrid.
Interested in knowing more? Hang tight, we’re sitting on all the rest of the details and we’ll be ready to share on April 5.
