Some 44,451 Saturn Vue models from the 2008 model year are being recalled, and yours might be a part of the action if it has body-color door handles. What’s the deal? According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the handles may stick, preventing the door from properly latching.
NHTSA says an unbelted occupant could tumble out of the vehicle as a result of a door that refuses to latch, though one has to figure that you’re sort of asking for it by ignoring the safety gear. In any circumstance, doors that pop open aren’t acceptable, so the 44,451 vehicles affected will be give chrome door handles by dealers at no charge to customers. The recall goes into full effect by August 18th, plenty of time to get a can of Nevr-Dull to keep those shiny handles looking their best.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited vs. Hummer H3T - Click above for high-res image gallery
Last year, we compared the dirtside manners of the Hummer H2 and Toyota Land Cruiser. Both trucks did everything we asked of them, but at the end of the excursion we were left with another question begging to be answered: could the Hummer H3T stand up to the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon? These cruiserweights live on a fatter part of the buying curve, and any time a Jeep is summoned to the ring, the other vehicle is inevitably the challenger. Even though the H3T is still relatively new to the world, it came time to find out if it was ready to stand up and fight for its place. Follow the jump to see how it held up.

According to Reuters, General Motors is on its way into bankruptcy court today in an effort to win approval and access to additional federal funding under its asset-split plan. The automaker filed for Chapter 11 protection just 30 days ago, but it will now go before Judge Robert Gerber to sell desirable assets (think: Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Buick) to “New GM” and jettison various debts and negative assets by consigning them to “Old GM,” which would be liquidated. If it succeeds in winning court approval, GM will receive billions in U.S. Treasury funding.
Before it can open the Fed’s piggy bank, however, GM must weather challenges from bondholders and disgruntled consumers involved in certain types of product liability lawsuits. Industry watchdogs believe that both GM and the Obama administrations auto task force have learned from Chrysler’s bankruptcy machinations, which could accelerate the process.
