2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe Review: First Drive

Caddy’s new coupe is a Grand Tourer with sporting ambitions
By Derek Kreindler, Jun. 18, 2010
Cadillac wants its new CTS Coupe to take dead aim at the Infiniti G37 and the BMW 3-Series coupe, widely considered the performance benchmarks of the luxury coupe segment. After driving the new Caddy through Northern California’s freeways, country roads and hillside passes, we’re here to tell you that Cadillac has managed to simultaneously miss the mark while creating a wonderful car in its own right; one that the brand should be proud of and will hopefully find many homes among consumers who don’t live for track days (or public road shenanigans).
Instead, the CTS Coupe does what American cars do best: look good, sound good and move you down the road with comfort and panache. Don’t think of the CTS Coupe as a second rate alternative to the BMW 335i. Instead, think of it as an Aston Martin DB9 compared to Ferrari’s F430 – both excellent in their own right, but geared towards two different kinds of drivers.

2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe Makes German Rivals Look Like Taxis

Controversy can be a good thing, and there’s a fair bit of it surrounding the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, the new two-door version of the Caddy sedan with a 556-hp supercharged V8 forged in Mount Doom.

Is it better than a BMW M3 or Audi RS 5? Is it, or is it not, pathetic that Motor Trend and Car and Driver this month attempt to compare the CTS-V with these European performance coupes? Is the CTS-V’s styling – as angular as early Kraftwerk, a strange splintered diamond chip of a car – wonderful and heroic, or a fugly waste of photons?

I’ve just spent a week in the CTS-V and, while debate can be bracing and informative, I hereby invoke cloture. Here’s the cold-blooded, clear-eyed, un-debatable bottom line about the CTS-V:

Cadillac Provoq concept evolves into 2010 SRX

If the vehicle pictured above looks vaguely familiar, it should. We basically saw it last January at CES and the Detroit Auto Show as the Cadillac Provoq concept. Replace the slatted grille with a standard Cadillac unit and the E-Flex fuel cell drivetrain with a conventional gas V6 and you have the new 2010 Cadillac SRX. The new SRX should be on the streets by this time next year replacing the current tall wagon that has only been marginally successful. Going forward, Cadillac has basically taking the first-gen SRX and split it into two vehicles, each of which is more focused on a particular segment. Read the rest of this entry »
