When the 2009 Camaro Concept debuted, everyone from daily drivers to the SS faithful agreed it was a certified, must-build hit. But after the initial excitement, many wondered if the production model would, or even could, capture the energy and vitality of the concept vehicle.

At the 2010, Chevy Camaro unveiling today in Warren, Michigan, and North Hollywood, California, those worries are fading in the rearview mirror. Sales begin early 2009.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro Specifications

An advanced, efficient 3.6L direct-injected V-6 with variable valve timing is standard on LS and LT models which are expected to comprise at least 70% of Camaro sales in Canada.  Direct injection technology helps the engine deliver more power through increased efficiency, while maintaining fuel economy and lowering emissions.  That means less fuel is consumed and lower emissions generated- including a 25% drop in cold-start hydrocarbon emissions.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro uveiled - A fun, efficient sports car for the 21st century

Chevrolet introduced the production of the 2010 Camaro which was built at GM’s Oshawa Car Assembly Plant.  It is a heritage-inspired sports car for the 21st century, combining great looks and performance; advanced technology and surprising efficiency- including 9.0L/100km estimated highway fuel consumption.  Sales begin in the first quarter of 2009.

“The new Chevrolet Camaro delivers the best of both worlds- great heritage and a thoroughly modern, advanced package of sporty driving, comfort and technology,” said Marc Comeau, vice president of sales, service and marketing for GM of Canada.  “And it does so with styling, fuel economy and value our competitors simply can’t match.”

2009 Chevrolet Camaro soon to arrive in North America

2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid

The Chevrolet Camaro concept was the celebrated star of the American 2006 auto show season. Chevrolet already has announced production plans for the Camaro, which will go on sale in the US in 2009. A production convertible model will be added later that year. Additional design details include:

  • Tonneau cover over the folded top
  • “Halo” headlamps
  • LED taillamps
  • Rear spoiler with LED-lit CHMSL
  • Racing-inspired fuel filler door
  • Front-inlet hood scoop, inspired by the Corvette Z06
  • Heritage-inspired rear fender “gills”
