Winnipeg Free Press by Jim Kerr

GM’s two-mode hybrid powertrain will first appear in full-size sport utilities.  The 2008 hybrid Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon started production this spring and will soon start showing up in select dealer showrooms.  I say select because not every dealer that wants one will be able to get one.  The demand for this new hybrid vehicle is already high and the initial production is limited to only some dealers.  As production increases, other dealers will receive them too.  Here is why they have been in high demand, even before production started. In mid-2006, General Motors released their first mainstream hybrid vehicle with first Saturn Vue Green Line. Prior to that the company had offered a mild hybrid system in the Silverado pickup but since that was really only offered in limited volumes to fleet and commercial buyers, we’ll skip that one. The system in the Vue was dubbed the GM Hybrid system but it’s more commonly called the belted-alternator-starter (BAS) system. Since the first Vue, the BAS system has been added to the Saturn Aura and Chevy Malibu as well as the redesigned 2008 Vue. Read the rest of this entry »

Debut of the Herculean Hybrid: Chevy Tahoe, World’s First Gas Electric SUV, Offers Comfort, Power and Value Without Vice

Chevrolet Tahoe

Make no mistake. The world’s first full-size gasoline-electric hybrid sport utility vehicle was designed first and foremost for Americans who can’t kick their large SUV habit.
I say Americans because for every full-size SUV sold in Canada, many more are sold down here south of the 49th parallel.

For those souls addicted to such vehicles, Chevrolet has the first step to recovery that doesn’t ask you to change your big SUV lifestyle: its new 2008 Tahoe Hybrid.
