That would make this Malibu more likely to be a global offering from GM as opposed to strictly a US market proposition.

2010 Chevrolet Malibu When Consumers Digest named Chevrolet Malibu as one of its 2009 Best Buys, it was only reinforcing what drivers across Canada and the United States have discovered for themselves: namely that Malibu provides a unique combination of distinctive styling, extraordinary fuel effi ciency and exemplary quality. No wonder Malibu has won more than 30 prestigious awards, including the 2009 Best New Family Vehicle* from Kelley Blue Book and why AUTOMOBILE Magazine in February 2009 wrote: “ … Drive one, and you will see why we've named it an … All-Star winner two years in a row.” It shows you what happens when you bring together trend-setting design and innovative<br /> engineering. The car that sets the standard for all other mid-size sedans. The 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. IT’S NOT JUST THEIR “BEST BUY”.

Perceptions have changed – people used to look to the likes of the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord to identify the best mid-sized car. Now all it takes is a visit to your neighbourhood Chevrolet dealer. That’s where you’ll fi nd the real benchmark for its class: Malibu. As AUTOMOBILE Magazine affi rms, Malibu is: “a family sedan that is more enjoyable to drive than the Toyota Camry, better looking than the Honda Accord …” Malibu’s sporty personality is established by its long wheelbase and short overhangs – the same characteristics, coupled with a tight wheel-to-body relationship, contribute to Malibu’s confi dent handling. Your control is further enhanced by the standard four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and StabiliTrak®. First it wowed the critics; now it’s about to do the same to you. “ MALIBU HAS BEEN THE SURPRISE OF THE AUTOMOTIVE WORLD.” – US NEWS & WORLD REPORT

That’s why, during the development of the new Malibu, we ventured to a wide variety of global locations – from Australia to Germany to Sweden. Included was the circuit with a reputation as the toughest in the world: the Nordschleife course at Nürburgring. What was learned on those tracks made Malibu’s handling dynamics even more stable and precise. Key technologies include a 4.5 link independent rear suspension, traction control and anti-lock brakes, with input provided by microcomputers, accelerometers and stability sensors. A three-mode StabiliTrak® system is included on LS and LT models, while SS models add a fourth competitive mode for sanctioned racing events. The stiff, ultra-high-strength steel chassis structure further enhances the suspension tuning while contributing to the comprehensive occupant protection. A technological tour de force – proven on test tracks around the globe and driven by some of the world’s elite test drivers. The track ahead is now clear. The wait is over. You’re next. TESTING, TESTING ONE-TWO-THREE.

They give you a high level of command over a series of Malibu’s functions. A good example is provided by the six-speed automatic transmission on 2LT and LTZ models. It includes TAPshiftTM manual shift control with paddles on the steering wheel that enables you to select the desired gear for performance-like driving or to address specifi c road conditions. There are also steering wheel controls for the sound system on all but LS models. All these controls allow you to make adjustments without taking your hands off the steering wheel. The same principle applies to the Bluetooth® wireless mobile phone connectivity that’s standard on all but LS models. And you can use the available three-prong 110-volt household power outlet to plug in your electronic devices. Sophisticated controls for a very sophisticated car. EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL.

Malibu is engineered to help keep you safe, starting with advanced driver control technology. But the reality is – some accidents are simply unavoidable. That’s why Malibu is also equipped with comprehensive occupant protection features, including six standard air bags: dual-stage frontal air bags with a Passenger Sensing System, front seatmounted thorax side-impact air bags, and frontto- rear head curtain side-impact air bags.* They helped Malibu earn the highest U.S. government frontal and side-impact crash ratings – fi ve stars.** You also have the security of OnStar®† – a system you won’t fi nd on either Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. It can direct emergency service providers to your exact location. Peace of mind: it isn’t a luxury in Malibu, it’s standard equipment. GIVE YOURSELF FIVE-STAR PEACE OF MIND.

2008 Chevrolet Malibu offers a great driving experience

As some wag once put it: “The true sign of your intelligence is measured by how much you agree with me.”

So you can see why a committee of fellow automotive journalists seemed pretty smart to me when they selected the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu as North American Car of the Year at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It’s been a year of honours for the Malibu since then, including an appearance on Car and Driver’s “10 Best Cars” list and selection by Kelley Blue Book as “Best Redesigned Vehicle for 2008.”

Chevrolet Malibu Sets New Record for Mid-Size Car

From Seeklingalpha.com

A Malibu is faster than a Lamborghini. Bet the house. Or in today’s environment, bet your house from 2006. The Lamborghini Gallardo goes from 0-60 in 3.95 seconds. The Chevrolet Malibu does it in 6.5 seconds. Still, the Malibu is faster. But I am not talking about mph. I am talking about shopping activity and Chevrolet has seen the Malibu go from 67,921 new vehicle prospects in October to 236,011 in December. That is an increase of 247%, becoming the number 1 shopped mid-size car three months in a row, including January. This is the first time a domestic mid-size has held the number 1 spot for three consecutive months – ever. Read the rest of this entry »

2008 Malibu nothing like my dad’s bland boat

Chevrolet Malibu

The Chevrolet Malibu is a legendary nameplate in my mind. I cut my teeth on dad’s bland, beige 1982 Chevy Malibu Classic station wagon. Not exactly cool, but as a 16-year-old from a small town, it was my ticket to freedom and happiness. Like a boat, it was big and bulky with a soft, supple ride. Reliable and tough, it could withstand weekend outings jam-packed with friends, shopping sprees to Buffalo and Toronto, and the occasional ding and scratch. Read the rest of this entry »

GM Unveils Stable of New Hybrids to Overtake Toyota

Hybrid Mode

After watching arch rival Toyota get all the glory during the past seven years for its push into gasoline-electric hybrids, General Motors Corp. now seems intent on catching up. The world’s largest automaker now has more hybrids in its lineups or on the way than Toyota does, with the latest two having been introduced at auto shows earlier this month.

These newest ones are the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 full-size pickup, unveiled in Los Angeles, and the Cadillac Escalade full-size sport utility vehicle, shown first in Miami, then in Los Angeles.

Equipped with GM’s new two-mode hybrid system, which is similar to the setup used by Toyota, these two new hybrids go on sale next year. The Escalade will arrive in the summer, and the Silverado in late fall.
